In 2013, MasterBrand Cabinets rolled out its Always Aware behavior-based safety program. The program reminds associates that being “Always Aware” helps to exponentially decrease the chance of an accident. By focusing on awareness and ownership, the program intends to achieve a zero injury culture.
The program’s clear, simple and specific behavioral expectations include the following:
- Injuries are preventable, predictable, and unacceptable.
- Every associate is responsible for his/her own safety and the safety of his/her coworkers.
- Working safely is a condition of employment.
- Continuous improvement is expected.
To help make the program successful, MasterBrand Cabinets aligned safe behaviors with production goals, relied on peer leaders to advocate for safety and put added focus on the program’s expectations when onboarding associates.
The Always Aware program has been very successful. At a recent leadership forum for Fortune Brands’ top leaders, safety was a key topic of discussion. MasterBrand Cabinets presented its Always Aware program to executives from all the Fortune Brands businesses in order to share best-practices.
