“Sometimes people believe that we are celebrating for ourselves, but it’s really the opposite,” said Jorge. “We want to celebrate so that people from other cultures and backgrounds can come and learn from ours. It’s about bringing people from different cultures together.”
Throughout the month, INSPIRA is also sending educational emails to associates focused on sharing information regarding Hispanic and Latinx cultures. These messages highlight historical information regarding these cultures as well as current important topics. In addition, it’s hosting a trivia night for all INSPIRA members in early October focused on building relationships between associates.
The group is also encouraging associates to get involved in their local community’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.
“Each community has their own events going on, and I encourage everybody to get out and take part,” said Ricardo Pineiros, senior director, Human Resources, Water Innovations. “These events are a way for everybody to celebrate and be exposed to these cultures, and ultimately that’s the best thing you can do.”
While the group is currently focused on Hispanic Heritage Month, it’s also looking ahead towards a long-term impact.
“We want to have a sustained impact on the organization and the communities where we live and work, said Ricardo. “It’s about more than just a few big events, we are looking to have a real, tangible long-term impact on the business.”
INSPIRA is open to all Fortune Brands associates, not only those of Hispanic and Latinx heritage. Associates can join INSPIRA, or any of the Fortune Brands Employee Resource Groups, by reaching out to their HR business partner to learn more.
